What are Cubic Zirconia pearls?

Updated: Aug 17, 2023

Cubic zirconia is a synthetic gemstone that is often used as a diamond substitute due to its high refractive index, which gives it a similar appearance to a diamond. It is made from a type of crystalline material called zirconium dioxide.

Cubic zirconia pearls are imitation pearls that are made by coating a round bead with a layer of cubic zirconia. The process of making cubic zirconia pearls involves first creating a round bead, usually made from glass or plastic, and then coating it with a layer of cubic zirconia using a technique known as electroplating. The result is a pearl-like bead with a high luster and a sparkling appearance that resembles real pearls.

While cubic zirconia pearls can be a more affordable alternative to genuine pearls, they do not have the same intrinsic value or beauty as natural or cultured pearls. Additionally, cubic zirconia pearls may not be as durable as other types of pearls and may be prone to chipping or cracking over time.
